on valentines day

I just finished making a Valentines day playlist. It’s got your standard love songs (Buble, Sinatra, Coldplay) and then a smattering of those favorites that take me back to the early days of falling in love with my now husband (The Killers, Rocket Summer, Backstreet Boys). Yes, it’s February 14th. The sun is shining (er, it was…), the snow is melting, I’m just getting over the big winter cold and I ate a piece of chocolate for breakfast. Some people hate this day arguing that it’s just a Hallmark holiday, it’s Single Awareness Day (S.A.D.), or it’s a sorry excuse to be romantic for one day. Now, I wouldn’t say that I’m a huge fan of Valentines day, but I am a fan none-the-less. It’s much more than just being cute and in love your significant other. It’s about celebrating love – with friends, family and those around you who could benefit from a little smile.

So, if you are feeling S.A.D. or you are totally in love – enjoy today. It’s Monday, the beginning of a beautiful week, and today is much bigger than just a Hallmark Holiday. Get out there, wear a smile, eat some chocolate and figure out how you can spread some love around. Even if you can’t feel it, love does exist. Sometimes, you just have to find it.

And because sometimes we need a reminder, here are two couples who are giving a chance on love. Both sessions will be gracing the blog very soon…

tyler + rachel + baby

Since it’s not bridal season, it must be baby season. My sister-in-law (who I recently featured) is due any day now. I’m keeping my phone charged and on me at all times. I have yet to visit any of my nieces & nephews while they are in the hospital and as long as my schedule allows, I’m bound to change that with this baby! They are under strict orders to call me on the way to the hospital ;)

Not only does our family have a baby on the way, but I’ve had the honor of photographing a handful of maternity sessions the past couple months. In fact, I had two this past weekend – and one of those couples was Tyler & Rachel. I’ve been excited for this session for months… like, probably since September when Rachel told me she would be calling me. Tyler & Rachel are going to be rock-solid parents – they are both so hilarious, fun, loving and totally excited to become Mommy & Daddy. It was hard to pick favorites from this session!

kendall + jess – holland, mi

Unless you live under a rock, you may have heard that Michigan, and about 20 other states, are in the middle of a “historical” winter/blizzard/storm/snowpocalypse. I have yet to truly believe that we will have the minimum of 10″ accumulated by tomorrow, but apparently the weathermen are very convincing! Schools, churches and universities have already cancelled for tomorrow… some even before the snow started! All I know is that I have no where to go tomorrow except to drink hot chocolate on my couch while I edit beautiful snowy pictures and watch the snow fall outside our front windows. :)

While I prep for my casual day tomorrow… I’ve been slowly piecing together this wedding post. This wedding was the final one of 2010 – I can’t believe it! And, fun fact – the groom in this wedding (Kendall) was a groomsmen in my first wedding of 2010. We joked that 2010 started and ended with Kendal… it’s a good thing he is a likeable guy! :) Kendall & Jess were married at Christ Memorial Church in Holland, MI where their reception was also held. The whole evening was a truly beautiful event – many laughs, many tears, lots of joy and a whole lotta love was in that church that day. I was so honored to be a part of this celebration.
