It was the first Saturday of May and the perfect spring day (I’m talking sunshine, blue skies and mid-70s!). Flowers were just beginning to bloom and people were beginning to shed their winter skin. On that day, it was clear that spring had officially sprung in Michigan.
I met up with Jayme and her girls at her mom’s house. As I arrived, most of the ladies were enjoying the sunshine and cold drinks on the back porch. The guys were a few blocks away at the soon-to-be-newlyweds’ home. The morning was full of preparation, but peaceful (minus the brief earthquake at noon – what!?). When everyone was ready, we headed to the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids. Neal + Jayme saw each other for the first time in the rooftop greenhouse – the same place where they would say their vows a couple hours later. We enjoyed the sun + warmth for portraits around the Market before the ceremony. The ceremony was meaningful and beautiful tribute to the beginning of their marriage. Afterwards, we celebrated with drinks on the terrace, dinner as the sun set and dancing late into the night. The entire day was speckled with fun, memorable, and sweet moments and it was an honor to witness. Congratulations, you two!

During the parent dances, as Jayme danced with her mother, her brothers surprised her by individually taking turns to dance with her during the song. Wowie. What a sweet moment!!

I remember this afternoon so fondly. It was sunny + warm – a beautiful day in Grand Haven, Michigan. Raina, a senior from metro Detroit, met me out at Lake Michigan to celebrate the kick-off to her senior year. Raina had spent lots of time on those shores growing up and it was the perfect setting for her session. Pretty soon, she’ll be graduating, so it might be time to share a few of my favorites from our day together. What do you say? :)
First, we started off downtown…
Happy Tuesday, folks! Well, if today is any indication of the season’s progression, it seems like winter might not leave anytime soon. It’s a snowy one out there in Michigan today! Despite the snow, I ventured out into the elements, determined to work from a coffee shop with my friend. Fortunately, I made it safely and I am enjoying sipping delicious coffee while I stare out the windows at the snow. It’s not that bad when you can enjoy it from inside, right? :) Anyways, in light of the falling snow, I would love to share a winter wedding with you today!
John + Hannah might be two of the most wonderful individuals that exist. Getting to know them as a couple and celebrate with them as they became husband + wife was a delight. They are kind, compassionate, full of joy, and love others well. I adored witnessing them care for each other and make each other laugh… they make an amazing team together. More than that, they have a great community around them, too. It was beautiful to witness family + friends support them, pray for them and cheer them into marriage. Oh, I’m so excited to finally share a preview of their day with you… Congratulations, John + Hannah!
Today, I am thrilled to share a little preview of Lynée + Trevor’s engagement session. It happened last month in Grand Rapids when there was a random week of snow before Thanksgiving. We were hoping to hold on to a little bit of autumn for the shoot, but we instead got a little autumn and a little winter… which made for a pretty sweet setting!
Anyways, THESE TWO. Oh my. I am so humbled and honored to be able to share their story with you. Lynée is one of the sweetest, kindest individuals I have met. She is sassy, funny, strong and loving. I haven’t known Trevor as long, but in the last year or so, I’ve come to learn that he is patient, caring, intelligent and loves deeply. Individually, they have walked some difficult paths over the last several years. But thankfully, those paths crossed and something new + beautiful began. It has been a joy to watch their relationship form over the last year and a half and to witness redemption and restoration happen individually and as a couple. This summer, they’ll be blending their lives, their families, and their love, but what a marvelous adventure it’s been already!
Their kiddos braved the cold with us – and I’d even say they had a little fun :)
