Andy + Rachel have something special. Even though they grew up going to the same school and attended the same church, it took several years before they caught each others’ eye. (It’s all about the right timing, isn’t it?) A love of Detroit sports initially brought them together, but their personalities + values really solidified their relationship. Andy is sincere, loyal, calm and has a servant’s heart. Rachel is intentional, kind, hilarious, and thoughtful. They compliment each other perfectly, they love each other wholeheartedly, and care deeply for those around them. I’ve known Andy for a while (my brother was one of his groomsmen!), but getting to know them as a couple has been SUCH a delight. I couldn’t have been more thrilled to be a part of their wedding day!
Andy + Rachel wed at Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield, Michigan – the place that is so dear to each of them and where their relationship began. They said their vows underneath a beautiful wooden arch (handmade by Andy’s dad) and were surrounded by family + friends as they committed their lives to each other. Dinner + dancing followed at Glen Oaks Golf Club in Farmington. The weather was lovely, the company was awesome and we even had a surprise guest show up – Paws, the Detroit Tigers‘ mascot! I could go on and on about how wonderful this day was… but I’ll let the pictures keep telling the story ;) Congrats, Andy + Rachel!!
Last week, Jonathan + I spent an evening in Grand Haven, Michigan with two fantastic people – Hailey + Josh! These two will be getting married later this summer in downtown Detroit (with a Tigers’ baseball theme – they are huge fans!) and we cannot wait to celebrate with them. But first, we decided to spend some time in Grand Haven – where they currently live and in a place that’s important to them and their relationship. We had to maneuver some summer storms, but who doesn’t like some moody, overcast evening light? We had a blast adventuring around together and getting to know them more. Here are some of my favorites from their session!
We had to find a baseball diamond for a few pics in their Tigers’ jerseys!
Remember this lovely couple from their Grand Haven engagement last October? Well, a couple weeks ago, they tied the knot on the east side of the state!
Steve + Deanna wed at the church where Deanna grew up – St. James Catholic Church in Novi, Michigan. After the ceremony, dinner + dancing commenced at The Meeting House Grand Ballroom – a beautiful, vintage event space in downtown Plymouth. It was a lovely wedding despite the fact that the weather was threatening all day long. We had periods of sun… and periods of intense rainfall. But these two and their bridal party were rockstars! They totally rolled with it and had a great time celebrating Steve + Deanna no matter what the weather threw at us! High fives for all of them! :)
I’ve said it before, but honestly, Steve + Deanna are so wonderful. They love each other dearly and love their family + friends so very well. It was so fun + such an honor to celebrate with them… and I’m excited to share a preview of their wedding story with you today!
What do you do when you have a beautifully sunny evening and a rad couple in love, in the city where they fell in love? Obviously, you take pictures. :)
Individually, Emily + Jesse they are two of the kindest, genuine and sincere people. Together, they make one heck of an incredible team. I’ve known Emily for several years now, but the moment I met Jesse and saw them interact together, I knew they had something special. In October, they will become husband + wife… and to celebrate their engagement, we spent a few hours adventuring around Detroit. It’s where they both live, where their love blossomed + grew, where Jesse proposed and where they’ll be beginning their marriage. So excited for you two!!! :)
Emily + Jesse asked if we could end our evening with dinner at one of Metro Detroit’s delicious coney island establishments (when a photo shoot includes greek salads, fries, gyros… the answer is always yes! :)). They had their first official date at Phoenix Coney Island last year, and it only seemed appropriate to cap off the evening there!
This day. Oh my heart. This day felt like a little piece of heaven on earth.
Jonathan + I arrived at Barothy Lodge in the afternoon. It had been a rainy morning driving north, but we were crossing our fingers that the rain wouldn’t last. Fortunately, the rain subsided shortly after lunch, giving us a mild, overcast May day. It was wonderful. When we arrived, we were were greeted by beautiful faces, laughter and a sense of calmness. Bob + Ruth rented out a large cabin in the woods where his kids, her kids, and all their grandchildren spent the weekend… building bonfires, grilling, chasing the ducks and making memories. On that Saturday evening, Bob + Ruth wed – along the banks of the Pere Marquette river, with just their children + grandchildren present. It was an intimate, beautiful ceremony, followed by hors d’oevres + champagne, more chasing of the ducks, and then a nice sit-down dinner after the kids went to bed.
Witnessing these two step into marriage together was such a joy… and an even greater joy to watch their families come together and celebrate with one another. I’m thankful for the opportunity to capture this day. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into their wedding story. Congratulations, Bob + Ruth!
When just family is at the party, you better take some time to take lots of family photos!
