I feel like there is so much I could say about Jesse + Emily, but it wouldn’t even scratch the surface. Watching the two of them become friends, get to know each other, date, and fall in love has been such a gift. These two, in every sense of the matter, were made for each other. Their personalities, their values, their interests, their hopes… all align. Their weaknesses are covered by the other’s strengths and they are each other’s biggest fans. They bring out the best in each other and love each other deeply.
On a sunny October afternoon, they vowed their lives to each other at a historical church right off Woodward in Detroit, Michigan. Delicious dinner (catered by Slow’s BBQ. YUM) + awesome dancing followed the beautiful ceremony… and the celebration couldn’t have been more perfect for the two of them.
Jesse + Emily, thank-you. Thank-you for sharing your lives and inviting us into your love story… as friends + and as photographers! We hope + pray nothing but the best as you embark on this marriage adventure together. Cheers!
In lieu of favors, Jesse + Emily gave each guest a dollar and asked them to choose between two organizations to donate their dollar to. Both Earthworks Urban Farm + MACC Development are near + dear to their hearts… what a beautiful way to give back!
In addition to the traditional wedding cake, Jesse + Emily set-up a dessert table – featuring their favorite family baked goods!
Molly + Lucas met at college. They were both in the same degree program…but he was a couple years older. Fortunately, with the help of some mutual friends and study groups…they became friends…eventually began dating…and didn’t stop :) They’ve been together for a couple years and are thrilled to be engaged and prepare to marry each other this coming May.
These two are so full of life. They care deeply for the world around them, they are intelligent, kind, and respect each other immensely. It’s easy to see that these two make a great team and I know that will only be magnified with marriage. Molly + Lucas, we are so honored to be able to join you in this journey! Enjoy the engagement preview!
Last month, we had the amazing opportunity to be a part of Tayo + Mekyla’s wedding weekend celebration! On the evening before their American wedding, Tayo’s parents hosted a traditional Nigerian Wedding Ceremony for the them at the Crowne Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tayo’s mother is Nigerian, and they had family + friends travel from all over to celebrate with them. It was a beautiful event – not only aesthetically, but culturally + spiritually as well! The ceremony was steeped with tradition + blessing + joy. It had many similar elements to a traditional American wedding ceremony, but each element seemed more intentional, more understood by the couple and the families. It truly was a really meaningful evening – and also an awesome party. Oh, how they danced!! :)
We were so grateful for this unique chance to capture this piece of their wedding story for them. Congratulations again, Tayo + Mekyla!
Molly + Marty met as freshman at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. They lived in the same dorm building and hit it off right away. As they got to know each other and built a friendship, they realized that there was a little something more there. It wasn’t long before they started dating, and the rest, as they say… is history :) Marty proposed this past spring and they are eagerly planning a summer wedding in metro Detroit.
For their engagement session, we met them on a beautiful fall morning at the place it all began – GVSU. As an alum myself, it was wonderful to be able to be on-campus again and share memories and hear more about the places the two of them in their early dating years. Can’t wait to celebrate with them next year!!
When we sat down with Leslie + Eric, we instantly felt a connection. We quickly discovered that they are kind, funny, personable, talented… basically, awesome. Our meeting felt more like a double date – like we’d been friends for years. We talked about how they met, the beautiful city of Detroit, their new house (and subsequent hobbies!), and their cat, Sophia. :) Next June, they will become husband + wife and we cannot wait to join them! But first, to kick off the festivities, we recently met them on Belle Isle for a fall engagement session. It was hard to narrow down favorites for this post, but I hope this is the perfect introduction to these two!
