welcome, avery!

You may recognize this sweet little family from last summer. Mr. Noah turned one and we had cake in the park… It was a delight! Well, just a month ago, Noah became a big brother! His little sister Avery was born on a beautiful, sunny spring morning (St. Patrick’s Day, in fact!)! The following week, I had the privilege of meeting Avery at home with her family. We had a great time together and I loved watching her parents and her brother interact with her! She is totally loved already!
Avery wasn’t awake for much of our time together, but that’s ok! Who doesn’t love a sleepy little newborn? :)Noah is a pretty awesome big brother already!

justin + sarah – bloomfield hills, michigan wedding

It has been a few months since I shot a wedding. The 2011 season has come and gone, full of wonderful, amazing couples to share it with. After a few months of wedding “rest”, I am ready to be back at it! 2012 has a bright future ahead of it, and as I was driving across the state on an early Saturday morning a few weeks ago, I knew I was about to embark on an another exciting season (my 5th one!). For the first wedding of the year, my partner in crime (my hubby + caddy, Jonathan) had to be out of town, but fortunately, my sweet, talented friend, Alyssa, was able to join me! Our early morning drive took us to one of my favorite venues, the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Hills, MI. We were there for the wedding of Justinian + Sarah – a wonderfully awesome couple (AND Sarah happens to be an extended relative of mine. love it!). It was an intimate affair – with a morning ceremony, followed by brunch in front of the fireplace. Surrounded by close family and friends, Justin + Sarah promised forever to each other and officially kicked of my 2012 wedding season. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your day, you two!
As soon as the bride was ready, it was time to begin the ceremony! Justin was anxiously waiting her arrival! These two chose not to have the tradition of bridesmaids and groomsmen… so it was just the two of them for portraits, and we had time to get lots of them!Love the sweet candid on the left, captured by Alyssa!Their first dance was so sweet and meaningful!

lexi’s first birthday!

Before I launched into wedding season, I had the unique opportunity to spend a Saturday afternoon photographing a different kind of momentous occasion for a family: A First Birthday Party!

I met with Kristin a few months back to talk about her sweet baby girl and the plans for the spring birthday. From the sounds of it (and from the pins on her Pinterest board!), I knew the party would be so much fun! Bryan + Kristin currently reside in North Carolina, but they decided to host the party in Michigan where they both grew up and where their families live. It turned out to be a gorgeous spring day for this beautiful shabby-chic, cupcake-inspired birthday party! Lots of fun was had by all and I’m so happy I was able to share in this day with them!

Here’s a little glimpse into sweet little Lexi’s first birthday celebration with her Michigan friends and family!I arrived early so we were able to snap a few portraits of the birthday girl with her awesome parents!Kristin did a fabulous job tying all the details and ideas together! The delicious cake was made by the awesome bakers at Holiday Market in Royal Oak. In my opinion, it’s one of the best places to get a cake for ANY occasion in Metro Detroit! My dad has been buying our birthday cakes there for the past 10 years and they have yet to disappoint! :)

last week…

…I was in Seattle! I spent lots of time wandering, drinking coffee, hanging with some sweet college students and learning about how life is done in and around the different communities in the city. I’ll have a full post for you later this week, but for now, I gotta catch up on emails and editing! :)

amber + pat

One thing we have not had a lot of in Michigan this winter is… snow. However, I have had a few sessions this winter where the couple has specifically stated, “I think it would be fun to have pictures in the snow!” My response has always been, “Not a problem! It’s Michigan – we will for sure have at least some snow!” I mean, come on, why would we NOT have snow in the winter in Michigan?

Well, fortunately, even though we haven’t had much snow this winter, the little snowstorms we have had have come at the right time for the sessions! One such example of that would be Amber + Pat’s engagement session. I even emailed Amber earlier in the week and asked her, “If there is no snow, should we still do the session this weekend?” Fortunately, they were up for anything and we actually ended up getting a few inches of fresh snow the night before their sessions. Yay!

I loved getting to know these two more and watch them interact and brave the elements. They love to have a great time and know exactly how to make each other smile and laugh. They will be wed this fall in September – I know it will be a good time!
