“Darling, I will be loving you ’til we’re seventy. And baby, my heart could still fall as hard at twenty-three. I’m thinking about how people fall in love in mysterious ways, maybe just the touch of a hand. Well me, I fall in love with you every single day. I just want to tell you I am.” – Ed Sheeran
I immediately was drawn to Jacob + Katie in our first interactions together. They were both honest, sincere, compassionate and they were open to sharing their journey together as a couple. Their story had been a while in the making – it started in college as just friends, but then they realized they had deeper feelings for each other years later while traveling with a group to South Africa. Last summer, after about a year of dating, Jacob proposed to Katie. Much of their engagement was spent apart – as Jacob completed his degree in the Upper Peninsula – but they were confident that they are meant to spend the rest of their lives together – and that helped mend the distance a bit! When we met, I could tell how much they love each other and how excited they were to have an awesome wedding… but more importantly, to BE married. To become husband + wife, to have + to hold, to live as one and fully share a life together.
When I asked them what they were hoping their wedding to look like, they wanted a big reunion-like party with friends + family (whom they love SO much), and they wanted it to be romantic, elegant and fun. But their story would not be complete without sharing how God has worked in their lives to bring them to this point. They wanted to celebrate God’s grace, love and faithfulness in their lives as they united their lives. Their ceremony was just that – a genuine, heartfelt and worshipful celebration. It was a beautiful moment to witness, to capture and to be a part of.
Individually, Jacob + Katie are amazing humans, but together, they bring out the best in each other – and are a strong, inseparable team. What an honor it was to photograph their wedding story and to celebrate their first day of marriage together with them. Congratulations, Jacob + Katie. Thank-you for being true to who you are, for inviting others into your lives and for exemplifying so much love + joy to those around you.
