When Peter + Melissa sat down to plan their wedding, they had a few thoughts to figure out. Melissa has always dreamed of getting married at the parish where she grew up – where all her sacraments had taken place. But, she loved the thought of having a reception at her grandma’s farm – the one that has been in the family since 1900… and the place where she spent most of her summers as a child. However, the church and the farm are almost three hours a part. Additionally, Peter is from New Zealand. His family + friends were literally flying across the world to celebrate with them… how do they combine all these elements into a fun, carefree wedding celebration? Their solution – make it a couple day event!
This wedding story is part one of two – let’s start with the Wednesday celebrations!
We joined Peter + Melissa and their immediate families in Redford, Michigan at Our Lady of Loretto. There, we all gathered as witnesses to their marriage vows. It was an intimate + sweet ceremony. Afterwards, we headed to Northville, Michigan where Peter + Melissa had designed an Americana-themed dinner at Garage Grill + Fuel Bar. We ate in the “Model A” room and were treated to a variety of small bites including – coney dogs + beef sliders and some fancier fare like roasted duck + coconut chicken. The families ate + drank together – swapping stories about the bride + groom and sharing memories from around Michigan and the world. We loved getting to know their families in the intimate setting – and it was a delightful start to the wedding weekend!
