Today, I have PART TWO of Peter + Melissa’s wedding celebration for you! (In case you missed PART ONE, click here!)
We pick up the wedding celebration on the Saturday following the Wednesday evening events. This time, instead of metro Detroit, we found ourselves in Port Hope, Michigan. It’s “the little town with a big welcome”, just south of the tip-of-the-thumb of Michigan’s mitten. The town is located directly on Lake Huron and is made up of mostly farms and lakefront cottages. One of those farms belongs to Melissa’s family! They have owned the property since 1900 and a lot of Melissa’s childhood memories happened at that farm. Coincidentally, many of my own childhood memories happened in Port Hope – just a few miles from the farm… at my grandparents’ cottage. It was so special to share some memories of that little town and photograph her wedding day in a place that was so meaningful to her!
Peter + Melissa put a lot of time and thought into making the day beautiful + enjoyable. They had a first look by the old rope swing in the barn, and we took portraits in the wheat fields. There were handcrafted decorations all over – and Peter even built several tables that were used for the head table and bar! Melissa’s godfather officiated a short, but sweet ceremony. They spoke handwritten vows to each other and watered a tree with water from local lakes in each of their hometowns – as a symbol of unity. (And the tree will be planted at the farm!) They had lawn games during cocktail hour and delicious BBQ for dinner. They did a great job implementing decor + traditions honoring Melissa’s American heritage and Peter’s New Zealand heritage.
Jonathan + I loved getting to know their family + friends… many of which stayed on the property or in cottages nearby so that they could all be together all weekend. Additionally, this may have been our most international party to date – having representatives from across the US, Italy, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and elsewhere to celebrate with Peter + Melissa. It was so special that so many people could make the trip to join them that day!
Peter + Melissa, we are grateful to have been invited to celebrate alongside you for your wedding weekend. I hope it was everything you were dreamed it to be – and I’m so excited to share Saturday’s preview with you today!
