For all the beautiful warm, sunny spring days we’ve had in West Michigan, we have also had our share of cold, rainy spring days. Unfortunately, for Jessica + Barry, the forecast for their engagement session was the latter, but spirits were high and we decided to dodge the rain drops and enjoy the beauty of spring – even if it was a little chilly. Despite the weather, I had a wonderful time hanging out with these two, getting to know them more, hearing all the reasons why they love each other and why they can’t wait to be wed. And, we were able to get some pretty great images in between the goosebumps and mud puddles! :) Thanks for adventuring with me, Jessica + Barry! Can’t wait for your August wedding!

anne + cody

Welcome back, winter! If you live in the midwest, you’ve probably been able to witness some weather craziness this month – 55 degrees one day, 5 degrees the next, 4 inches of rain, then 8 inches of snow… rinse and repeat. While some find the temperature rollercoaster maddening, I find it kind of wonderful. It’s like January just wanted to mix things up this year and I’m ok with that. So today, it’s winter again. And the snow, ohhh, the snow! It’s so gorgeous. I’ve been distracted by the flurries and showers all day long as I look out the big windows in my office. As treacherous and as blustery as this white stuff can be, I long for it every year. Snow makes everything a little more magical. There is a quietness and a stillness about the earth and for now, I’m thankful for the beautiful gift… even if it leaves again next week.

On this snowy Thursday, I’m excited to introduce you to Anne + Cody – one of my 2013 couples. The love story between these two began long ago – when they were just kids. This summer, they will finally become husband + wife and I’m thrilled to be a part of this new chapter in their lives! These two were hoping for a snowy engagement session when they scheduled it for the middle of January. But alas, their session came after a few days of mild temperatures and even the deep snow of the great up north had a hard time sticking around. Fortunately, we were able to find a little bit of snow on our adventure, so we took what we could get! Here are a few favorites from our afternoon together…

alison + shannon

As the winter season continues, I’m going to hopefully be catching up on blogging sessions from this past summer and fall that I just didn’t have time to blog during the crazy season. And, I’ve got a lot of really wonderful people for you to meet, so I hope I keep up with that promise! :)

Alison + Shannon are one of my awesome 2013 wedding couples! Back in October, I met them in Traverse City for their engagement session. We wandered around the grounds of an old hospital – getting to know each other, laughing a lot, dodging FALLING trees in the woods (it’s true – it was a VERY windy day!) and making some rad pictures to celebrate their engagement. And then, we ended the session in the water – very chilly, but very worth it. Here are a few favorites from that afternoon!

sydney + jay

These two are something special. They are sincere, compassionate, sweet, super in love and really fun. It’s true. I’ve seen Sydney care for and be crazy with her friends, I’ve heard the way Jay talks about Sydney and the way they laugh together, and I’ve seen their combined passion for mission work and different cultures.

I recently was able to spend a couple hours with them on a sunny evening hearing about their heart for the world, their desire to serve together AND their proposal under the stars in a market in Mexico on a mission trip (yes, also true). The joy and life that these two possess is contagious and I’m so excited for the plans they have set before them as husband and wife! They already make a really great team and I know they’ve got some awesome dreams to fulfill as a married couple.

Sydney + Jay, I wish you both the best as you continue to plan and prepare for marriage and as you enjoy this crazy journey together! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your story and have some fun with you on this session :)
They are planning a wedding for next July! And they made cupcakes to celebrate!When Sydney contacted me about an engagement session, she said they they would LOVE the “normal” and “nice” engagement pictures, but were hoping to end the session with a little fun… like, a CUPCAKE FIGHT…. how could I say no??Don’t worry, they still love each other – and I think this saves Sydney from getting cake in her face at the wedding, right? :)

nick + becca

It’s hard to find the words to describe Nick + Becca because everything about them and their relationship is just truly beautiful. I have known the two of them for a few years and I am continually amazed by the way they respect and care for each other, their ability to challenge each other and grow as a couple. Their lives and their relationship are a constant example to those around them and I consider it an honor to be invited into their story as a friend and as a photographer. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for their wedding next May, but even more than that, I’m excited for these two to be married and see what kind of adventures lie ahead of them as husband and wife! It’s evident that these two are meant to be – that they were created to be together – and I know they have an exciting journey ahead of them!

We were able to spend a morning together a few weeks back during the wonderful Grand Rapids event known as ArtPrize. You’ll see a few ArtPrize decor/pieces in some of these shots – and very soon, I have a wedding from ArtPrize to share with you as well! But for now, here are a few of my favorites from our session…“don’t let life pass you by”
