Today, I am thrilled to share a little preview of Lynée + Trevor’s engagement session. It happened last month in Grand Rapids when there was a random week of snow before Thanksgiving. We were hoping to hold on to a little bit of autumn for the shoot, but we instead got a little autumn and a little winter… which made for a pretty sweet setting!
Anyways, THESE TWO. Oh my. I am so humbled and honored to be able to share their story with you. Lynée is one of the sweetest, kindest individuals I have met. She is sassy, funny, strong and loving. I haven’t known Trevor as long, but in the last year or so, I’ve come to learn that he is patient, caring, intelligent and loves deeply. Individually, they have walked some difficult paths over the last several years. But thankfully, those paths crossed and something new + beautiful began. It has been a joy to watch their relationship form over the last year and a half and to witness redemption and restoration happen individually and as a couple. This summer, they’ll be blending their lives, their families, and their love, but what a marvelous adventure it’s been already!
Their kiddos braved the cold with us – and I’d even say they had a little fun :)
Well folks, Happy Valentine’s Day! :) Today, on this day that the world celebrates love, I want to share a personal post featuring my family – some of the most important people in my life! This past summer, my entire immediate family carved out a weekend to spend together. Now, this is no easy feat. At the time, we had 10 adults, 11 kiddos, several different jobs and travel + sports schedules to manage, yet we were able to pencil off a few days to share some space together. We packed up and headed to “the Thumb” to spend a few days at my grandparents cottage on Lake Huron. This place is a nostalgic + cozy – it’s been in the family for over 25 years. The cottage is nothing fancy, but it’s absolutely perfect and I loved watching my nieces + nephews explore the landscape as I did many, many years ago. It was one of my favorite weekends of the summer and I’m so thankful we were able to create some memories and celebrate our love as a family.
So today, here’s to love – the love of family, the love of friends, the love of a spouse, partner, children, co-workers… whatever love you can celebrate today, celebrate it. And, in case that’s not enough, here’s to summer and sunshine… and the promise that it will return… soon. :)
Hi, folks! My, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve graced you with a blog post. I’ll blame it on the holidays + traveling + the new year + birthdays + family + friends. All good excuses, right?
I’m thankful for this season. This time on the calendar when life slows down. The days are cold + snowy, allowing for many fires in the fireplace, many cups of cocoa or tea and the occasional bundled walk through the neighborhood. Winter has never been my favorite season, but you know what? It’s not that bad. I actually am kind of enjoying it this year – shhh! :)
Today, I would love to share with you a few of my favorite images from a session I had just before Christmas. This family is no stranger to my camera, and this time, they’ve added a handsome little boy to their clan. These images were taken when Levi was only one week old. He is a handsome, precious little guy and his big sisters and parents love him SO much. I loved spending time with the five of them in their home to celebrate this new life. Congratulations, Carter family!
When Toni contacted me this summer about her upcoming wedding – I was thrilled! I met Toni and her beautiful children a couple years ago when she had me photograph their family in downtown Grand Rapids. A few months ago, she became engaged to Carl – a wonderful, kind-hearted, sweet man who adores her (and her kiddos!). I was so excited for the two of them and couldn’t wait to be a part of their day!
Carl + Toni made plans for a small, local wedding in November… with talks of spending time downtown, at a restaurant or elsewhere. They eventually decided that a ceremony in their living room and champagne + cake in their dining room would be perfect – and it was! The venue was obviously not your “typical” wedding setting, but the day was lovely in every way. I was so honored to be invited in their home and be one of the few among the intimate gathering + celebration of their wedding vows. Congratulations, Carl + Toni!
Baby, it’s cold outside. Really. Winter is upon us here in Grand Rapids! It has barely stopped snowing in the past 48 hours and I love the constant-snow globe that’s happening outside our windows!! Snow or not, I’m fully embracing the winter season this year. I’m embracing the slower pace, numerous cups of tea, Christmas lights and cozy fires. Also, with the winter season comes a quieter photography season and I’m excited to share previews of sessions + adventures from this past year that I haven’t quite had the time to blog until now.
Today, I would love to share a session from earlier this summer. During the last week of April, my husband + I had the opportunity to travel to Asheville, North Carolina with our best friends to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary. We spent the week in a lodge in the mountains – exploring nature + city life. We ate (a lot) of delicious food, took plenty of hikes + shared many wonderful memories together as we reminisced on their first year of marriage. On one of our last days in the mountains, we spent the afternoon photographing Jonathan (Jonno) + Rachel for an anniversary session and the results of that shoot are here today! Yay!
Standing next to these two on their wedding day (and likewise having them stand next to us) was one of the greatest honors of our lives. I’m so thrilled that they have chosen each other as life partners + teammates and I’m grateful to count them both as forever friends. Jonno + Rachel, here’s to many more adventures together and many more years [wonderful] of marriage! Cheers, my friends!
